The words on a manifest, defined honestly.
The closeout trade has no standard vocabulary — the same word means different things from different sellers. Here is exactly what each grade means when it appears on one of our manifests, including the parts other people leave out.
New / Overstock
Factory-sealed goods that never reached a shelf — over-orders, canceled POs, packaging refreshes, seasonal resets.
What to expect: Retail-ready product in original packaging. The manifest lists exact models and counts. This is most of what moves through our desk.
Shelf Pulls
Goods pulled from retail display — never sold, but handled: price stickers, shopwear on the box, mixed packaging generations.
What to expect: Product is new; presentation varies. Expect some sticker residue and imperfect boxes. Priced accordingly, stated on the manifest.
Master Case
Unopened manufacturer case packs, straight from distribution — the cleanest condition in the trade.
What to expect: Uniform product, uniform counts, untouched since the factory. When we have it, the manifest says so explicitly.
Customer Returns
Goods a consumer sent back. Reasons range from "wrong color" to "broken" — and the box rarely tells you which.
What to expect: Unless a lot is marked tested, assume untested. The trade’s commonly cited rule of thumb: roughly 65–75% working, a share repairable, the remainder parts or scrap. If you are not set up to test and grade, do not buy returns — and when a lot of ours is returns, the manifest says RETURNS in plain sight.
Refurbished
Product restored to working condition — by the manufacturer or a third party — and marked as such.
What to expect: Working product, non-original packaging is common. Who did the refurbishing matters; the manifest states it when known.
Salvage / As-Is
Known-defective or unverifiable goods sold for parts or reclamation.
What to expect: No working assumption at all. We rarely trade salvage; if we ever offer it, it is labeled unmistakably and priced like what it is.
Our rule: condition is stated per lot, on the manifest, before you commit — and if we haven’t verified a lot, it doesn’t go out under our name.
Every live lot carries its grade. See them in the portal.
